August 2024
Season: Winter
As we are approaching Spring the rain has finally arrived and some seriously wild wind. The wind is scary especially when you’re surrounded by gum trees. Eucalypts have earned the reputation of ‘widow maker’ due to their propensity to drop large branches onto cars, houses and people.
We’ve spent time stripping the vegetable beds, turning the soil and adding a 50/50 mix of mushroom compost and topsoil. I’m looking forward to start sewing seeds in early September. I’m planning to start with a variety of lettuce, radish, leek, baby spinach, silver beet, broad beans, climbing beans, peas, kale, carrots, beetroot and plenty of herbs.
The wattle continues to put on a spectacular show. There’s a mass of inspo to be found on my daily walks
My work:
This month I hardly painted. We took a break and went on a holiday to Thailand. While there, I decided to update and upgrade my website. I’m really pleased with how it looks and you can now purchase my work online. Squarespace is incredibly user friendly, I did the whole update sitting by the pool.
I also decided it’s time to show my work. I haven’t shown it to anyone. I’ve set the date for Sat 7 September and have been working hard to put it together. I’m setting it up at home. My son is away in Canada on exchange, so his study has been converted into my gallery.
Rick Rubin says, “Like nature, our inner world is infinitely rich, complicated, mysterious, and beautiful. And a big part of being a maker in the world is learning to be in touch with the abundance of your inner landscape.”
For the last couple of years while I’ve been experimenting with painting, I’ve kept the work close, but now It feels like it’s time to show up and share my journey so far.
It feels good to be sharing and once I’m done I’m excited to keep painting and developing my work.
Below are some screenshots from my website.
